Pukura Youth Artists Concert

Following on from the highly acclaimed show last year, Pukekura Breakfast Rotary Club is again hosting an evening of dance, speech, orchestra and song, soloists and instrumentalists, in a new programme performed by a group of highly talented young artists. Be prepared for an enthralling evening!

All proceeds from the one-off show are donated to the PBR Education Trust.

The Royal New Zealand Ballet is delighted to present a national tour of New Zealand dance icon Russell Kerr’s classic production of Swan Lake as the centrepiece of our 60th birthday year.

Considered the greatest of all classical ballets, Swan Lake is a perfect synthesis of music and dance and  transports the audience from ballroom to lakeside. You’ll be caught up in the unfolding tragedy and exalt as the dancers bring every nuance of their characters alive through ballet at its most illuminating.

The Investec Rugby Championship- Bledisloe Cup

Will the All Blacks continue their dominance over Australia in 2013 by retaining their strong-hold on the much coveted Bledisloe Cup?
With the first game being over the ditch a week before this game, it could be the all-important deciding fixture in the capital. It’s set to be a sell-out so grab your tickets while you can, for a game you won’t want to miss!

Wellington has a wonderful festival planned around this game, so you can soak up the atmosphere during test week!

Jesus Christ Superstar will showcase many of the talented young singers, dancers, musicians and technicians in Marlborough. Duncan Whiting’s Combined Colleges shows have included Buddy Holly, West Side Story and Footloose. His well received recent production of Joseph featured many of the young talents in this show. Once again he teams with Con O’Brien, Jeannie Mark and Ray Russell to provide the inspirational music and song of the well known story. Favourite songs such as Everything's Alright, I Don't Know How to Love Him and Superstar are highlights

 

Nelson

NZ Mountain Fil Festival Tour 2013

2 August

Wanaka’s NZ Mountain Film Festival (a non-profit charitable trust) is one of the world’s major Mountain Film festivals, an internationally known event that attracts film makers from around the world.

The festival theme, ‘A Celebration of Adventurous Sports and Lifestyles’, aims to show case films from the high-octane sports such as skiing, climbing, BASE jumping, kayaking and mountain biking. It also features the more sublime but even more important environmental and mountain culture films to educate and entertain.Once again Nelson will be hosting a selection of Award winning films from the Festival.

Two of our string stars, Concertmaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen and Section Principal Viola Julia Joyce, trade melodies in the Sinfonia Concertante, exploring all the available colours of their instruments as they soar above the orchestra. Mozart’s overture to The Abduction from The Seraglio fed a Viennese vogue for exotic ‘Turkish’ sounds and is filled with various bells and whistles. Sudden shifts and turbulent chromaticism are brought to order in Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, concluding a concert where you can truly enjoy the magnificence of Mozart

Intimate comedy with music, song and an array of endearing characters.

Claudia lives in rural Canterbury. Her husband is a farm accountant and her son Ben plays in a band. When an eccentric Irish film-maker arrives in NZ to make a film of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, Claudia is keen to audition for the role of Miss Havisham as she sees it as a way out of her humdrum existence. As she prepares for the role, Claudia finds her own life takes on the twists and turns of a Dickens novel. A work of unexpected visual richness, Playing Miss Havisham unfolds with mystery, music and surprise.

Snowboard Slopestyle – Winter Games NZ

16 - 17 August

With a mix of the world’s elite snow sports athletes vying for Olympic qualification and an exciting off-snow festival programme there's no better place to be this August than New Zealand's stunning Southern Alps.

Winter Games NZ in Queenstown and Wanaka is ranked as one of the top five winter sports event in the world and features no less than seven World Cup events - FIS World Cups in halfpipe and slopestyle for both snowboarding and freeskiing, plus two IPC World Cup adaptive alpine slaloms and an IPC Para-snowboard cross World Cup.

Some of the biggest names in snow sports are expected to compete for the all-important qualifying points for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia which take place just six months after Winter Games NZ. For spectators, New Zealand’s Southern Alps host an Olympic preview as the general public can watch all the world-class action for free on the slopes of Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak and Snow Park NZ.

NZIFF is essentially a non-competitive Festival with a single competitive section the 'NZ’s Best' short film competition. We encourage developing filmmakers by providing this showcase of the best in NZ short filmmaking talent through audience engagement and peer participation.
